Parent Involvement
Parents are their child's first and most influential teachers.
It is important that we all work together for the common goal
of each child's education. There are many ways that parents can
get involved at school.
The following are just a few ways that parents can get involved:
- Join the Durant Elementary PTA
- Volunteer at and for the school. Register to be a volunteer.
(A background check will be performed.)
- If you cannot help at school, ask your child's teacher if the classroom needs any supplies.
- Support your child while doing daily homework. The homework calendar is available online through this website. In Kindergarten, parents are asked to find a place at home to do homework, schedule a regular time and find the tools needed. It is important to begin to set a routine.
- Read with and to your child every day. Consider getting a public library card. Going to the library can be very fun and important to a child's literacy growth.
- Stay informed...always check your child's backpack. There may be an important piece of information. Always send back needed information
immediately.
-Review your child's Monday folder. Show your child that their work is important to you. Check for important information. Monday folders are returned to school on Tuesday.
-Notify the teacher and school if there are any changes in address, telephone
number or emergency contact information. In addition, if there is a change
in how your child will go home, call the school to let us know. Also, if there
is a major change in the family, it is important to discuss it with the teacher
as it may impact your child's learning.
-Be sure to attend class and school functions. These are there for the benefit
of families within our school community.
-Be sure to attend your child's conferences. There will be one scheduled each
Fall and again in the Spring. Should additional conferences become
necessary,it is important to attend.
-Have FUN with your child!!
